Anyone taken the auditor training and know if this is going to be required or important at all?

Boss is insisting that we need to 'version' our documents so an auditor could see what changed and when but I'm not finding that historical state really matters anywhere, as long as the documentation accurately represents the environment at time of audit. But TBH I don't even know where to look for that kind of info.
